With Black History Month coming to an end, I wanted to write this article about some great black-owned brands to show continued support to.
1. Brandon Blackwood
If you have Tik Tok, I’m sure you’ve heard of this first brand. Brandon Blackwood is a New York-based bag company that has recently gained a huge following. The trunk bag easily became the “it” bag several months ago, but this brand continues to launch amazing collections. All the bags are made from fine leather and start at $100.
2. am:pm
This contemporary London-based shoe brand aims for comfort and quality while providing a shade range suitable for all skin types. Their core collection is my personal favorite as it aims to have a nude for all shades. The prices range from $100 - $300. The shoes play with texture and color, but all of the designs have a cushioned insole lining.
3. Re Ona
If you like Djerf Avenue and Aritzia, you’ll love this Canadian clothing brand. This brand emphasizes its ethical values for clothing that will last. These pants on the right remind me of the effortless pants from Aritzia. I absolutely love the minimalist style. However, the prices are similar to Aritzia’s as well, ranging from $40 - $200. However, it is a great alternative as it is ethically made and you can choose to support a black-female-owned business.
4. Sunlight Muse
This black, female-owned swimwear company is great for last-minute spring break shopping or more distant summer plans. Sunlight Muse is based in Miami and advocates for female empowerment. There are multiple styles of one-pieces and two-pieces to choose from. Prices range from $100 - $200.
5. Heron Preston
Heron Preston is a designer who has worked alongside Virgil Abloh and Kanye West. He launched his own streetwear brand in 2017. Although this brand is more of a luxury brand, I wanted to include it as the brand has recently expanded into female streetwear. The Russian logo is to credit his partnership with New Guards Group. This streetwear brand is constantly rising, and is said to become the new Off-White.
These brands are all amazing to keep your eye on and are great alternatives to brands that you usually shop at.
