Primaveral: an adjective to describe something “of or relating to early spring,” as defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary. Here in Boston, it may not feel like early Spring is coming; Unpredictable bursts of snow, interspersed with sunny days make it feel like Winter is here to stay. Plus, many buildings in Boston leave their indoor heat on, even on warm days, leaving you dripping with sweat when you come in from the cold outdoors. It’s hard to dress for the weather this time of year, but hopefully, these tips will help you get your closet ready for Spring.
Sleeveless Turtlenecks
While they can be worn alone, as seen on celebrities like EmRata, sleeveless turtlenecks are an excellent option for layering to adapt to unpredictable weather. Sleeveless turtlenecks can help keep the trunk of your body warm, without adding bulk to your outfit.
Dr. Martens
Initially created as a workman’s boot, Dr. Martens are incredibly durable and sure to keep your feet dry from snow (or, melted snow on a warm day). However, unlike a true snow boot from a brand like Uggs, Dr. Martens won’t make your feet sweat! Colloquially known as “Docs”, Dr. Martens boots have become increasingly popular in recent years. In response, the company has dramatically expanded its selection of shoes, meaning there is a pair of Docs for everyone!
Scarves
Scarves have been worn for centuries, and there’s certainly a reason this often neglected accessory still exists today! Scarves are incredibly dynamic and versatile from both a fashion perspective and a functional perspective. Different fabrics and wrapping techniques can completely change the look of a scarf and the weather conditions it can be worn in. Skinny scarves are even making a comeback, as seen on many of the runways from Copenhagen Fashion Week 2023. Moreover, they’re super easy to take on and off to adapt to weather changes throughout the day.
Tights/Stockings
Too warm for pants but too cold for bare legs? Tights are a great way to keep your legs warm, without making you overheat! Nowadays, brands like Free People and Urban Outfitters sell tights that are more than just simple shades of black and beige. With fun patterns and shades, these tights can help spice up your outfit while keeping you prepared for whatever weather you may face.
Layering can be tricky! There’s a very fine balance between “too much” and “too little”, especially this time of year. However, hopefully, this mini-guide will help you begin to navigate the ins and outs of layering for early Spring. Do you have any layering tips I forgot to mention?
